So before we left, the house was pretty much clean. Then on the way home, I got sick, bleh. Then Wylie get's sick, bleh. (He still is, bleh.) So anyways, for the last few days, I've spent a lot of time either crashed on the couch, or trying to tote a 5o pound child while washing dishes and sweeping floors. (He really doesn't weigh 50 pounds except for when you are trying to multi-task)
I said all that to say this. My house is a MESS! Right now! Presently. Today.
I have company coming on Friday. My brain gets a little wacko when this happens. I jump from one task to the next, never completely finishing the first. The sheets have to be changed, so I take the old ones off, and don't put new sheets on. Then I decide to wash a load of clothes. I pick up a few things off the living room floor. Then I make a bed in the kid's room. Before I know it, I've run all over the place doing all kinds of stuff and nothing looks any different. I HAVE to make a list! ...instead I'm blogging. :)
One room at a time!!! That's what I gotta do.
My other issue is that I like to have all my dishes washed and the kitchen floor swept or I have a hard time working on the rest of the house. Do dishes ever get done? Is the kitchen floor ever clean? No! So today I was talking with my DH who was at work, and he came to the rescue! He says, "You probably aren't gonna like this but..." (can you tell he thinks I'm a little hard headed? well, I am.) He says, "Why don't you leave the bed un-made, and only wash the dishes once, like after supper." And guess what, I think I'm going to take his advice. It's good! I love my husband.

Martha, I am totally with you when it comes to the whole "scatter brain" cleaning compulsions. :( Most of the time I find myself running in circles, or forgeting to do something extreamly important, unless I make a list. I find I can get a lot accomplished. Maybe because I am not trying to remember everything I have to do.....:)
Your post made me laugh, maybe becuase I can hear you saying all of that, and also, I can hear Joe David(Mr. Practical) saying what he said. :) Miss you guys!
Miss you to Kimb! Are you guys going to IHC? Would love to see you there!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who runs in circles! Gotta have those lists! :)
No, we are not... we wanted to, but Michael doesn't get two weeks holiday at his job until next year. :(...and we are making a trip up to PA for a couple days for Jaylena and Ben's wedding in June. Hope everyone gets feeling better soon!
I am also cleaning impaired...
But I have found something that helps me - a list for sure, but also working backwards.
What must happen to have guests? Prepare their room (then shut and lock the door), prepare the menu for that time, they are here over sunday and the ironing board is in their room, so iron clothes comes next... etc. Till all the absolutely must be done items are marked off and I can just room by room make things presentable, grocery shop, practice relaxing breathing techniques, etc. :>)
It all sounds so easy, but I'm still not very good at it... Good luck!
Completely understand those days. You are not alone. :)
