I'm what you might call a paranoid person. If I'm by myself and get in the car at night, I turn the dome light on and check the back seat. ...even if the door was locked! If I had suitcases in the back seat, I'd probably take the time to un-zip them just to make sure there are no people in there!
If my husband is away overnight, I make the rounds through the house. I look e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e. Under the tables, behind furniture (even behind the couch which has a guitar behind it, so no-one can fit there), under our low-to-the-floor bed, in showers, pantry, and closets! I even check to make sure the door leading up-stairs (which is only used as storage) is still locked! ...then I go to bed. I read 'til way late – sometimes 2:00 am, just to make sure I can sleep soundly. But, before going to sleep, I'll probably get up again just in case I forgot to lock our doors. ...of course the next day I feel like a zombie, but hey, I was safe!
Anyway, I said all that to say... I'm paranoid!! This morning at six o'clock I'd just seen my husband off to work. I was doing something around the house when I heard a strange noise -like someone trying to open or bang on the screen door! Of course, paranoia kicked into high gear! Who in the world would be trying to get into my house at 6:00am? I tip-toed to the door, hesitantly flicked on the porch light, and peered through the blinds. No-one! Hmmm... Without opening the door, I tried to look and see if someone was hiding close along the side of the house. Nothing. Finally, I went back to my work, but was still puzzling as to what it might have been. As I went back over to the counter, I passed the toaster, where my well browned piece of bread was patiently waiting. ...then I realized! When my toaster popped the toast up, it rattled – like a screen door! So much for early morning exitement.

LOL! You sound like me!! I turn my fan on high and of course have a hand gun close!! So that is warning to anyone I know needing to get into my house...they should probably call me first or I might shoot em!! :)
This post reminds me of one night when a balloon got caught in the ceiling fan....Keith thought a raccoon was coming through the ceiling. :D
I'm glad yours was only a toaster.
Its Oswego, KS, sweetie! Ha! No, really, I do it too... I'm crazy. My honey thinks I don't give burglars very much credit for their thinking abilities... "Who would close themselves in a closet???" Ha!
I'm probably the only person in Oswego, KS who locks the door at night! lol, not really, but it is tiny town USA! What can I say, I'd probably lock my door if I was the only person on earth! :)
